CHILD SUPPORT

When parents separate, they must financially support their children. The amount of child support that must be paid is determined by applying the Quebec Child Support Guidelines. Support will also depend on the income of each parent and the type of child custody that is being exercised.

If children are in CEGEP or university, child support is also payable to cover all the associated expenses. Child support is not taxable, or deductible for the payer.

In this context, Me Cooper and Me Florian, family lawyers, can be of invaluable assistance. Their extensive knowledge of child support laws and guidelines allows them to advise their clients on the appropriate amounts to pay or receive. They are able to assist their clients in the negotiation process with the other parent or effectively represent their interests in court if an amicable resolution is not possible. They are committed to protecting the rights of their clients while ensuring that the financial needs and welfare of children are considered in a fair and balanced manner.

SPOUSAL SUPPORT

If you are not financially independent, you may be entitled to compensation and financial support. The pension will be determined taking into account the financial capacity of the “payor” as well as the needs of the spouse requesting the pension.

The expertise of Me Cooper and Me Florian, lawyers in Montreal and Pointe-Claire, allows them to assess the financial situation of both spouses and determine the appropriate amounts to pay or receive in spousal support. They can then negotiate with the other party to reach a fair agreement or effectively represent their clients in court if an amicable resolution is not possible. Their goal is to ensure that their clients receive the financial compensation to which they are entitled, whilst ensuring that the process is carried out in a fair and respectful manner.
